19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid season, winning just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - led to him falling of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first title after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

Success also signifies he has secured twenty-one victories at 21 various competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is really nice," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.

The player's defensive strategy and regular reactions on the playing surface had caused some to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was over.

But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

He came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the final five points to go ahead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to force a third set.

Moutet saved 4 early-game chances in a competitive deciding set before the champion won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he clinched victory with a point at the net area, with Moutet incapable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
